Problem: Drivers of the Toyota mule
found the ride to be rough due to the tiled floor in the City of Industry plant. Constant vibrations from the mule made
the driver's hands numbed, and radiated to the arms and body. Consequently,, it was imperative that the vibration
be eliminated or minimized.
Solution: Through systematic problem
solving, the circle reached the solution of the Mule Suspension Kit. The kit was readily available from Toyota.
It is a spring suspension that acts as a shock absorber like those commonly used in cars. It made the ride on the tile
floor smoother. Although it did not eliminated the vibration, it greatly minimized it.
The Toyota Mule suspension was a challenging project. The ERRP (Ergonomics) acknowledge
the importance of the project. With the joint effort, the QWL "Team of Success" and the ERRP made the project a great
success.
